The story tells of a huge robot built by the elderly scientist Juzo Kabuto and left inheritance, at his death, to the teenage nephew Koji Kabuto (in Italy Ryo in this series, then Koji in the great Mazinger and then Alcor in Goldrake). The task of the automation would have been to counter the plans of Dr. Inferno (in Italy Dr. Inferno in Mazinga Z and then Dr Hell in the great Mazinga and Mazinkaiser), a German scientist who in 1962 had participated with Kabuto and other colleagues in an archaeological expedition to the Greek island of Bardos (Rhodes in the Italian adaptation), to discover the remains of the ancient Mycenaean civilization. The army of mechanical monsters built by the Mycenaeans (Mikenes in original) was found, Dr. Hell revealed his real intentions by killing all those present (except Kabuto, who managed to escape) and taking possession of the ancient technology, with the aim of bringing the descendants of the ancient Greek people back to earth (forced for centuries to take refuge in the bowels of the earth) The world.
